Wyatt's Birth Announcement
So, this is old news by now, but I thought I would post Wyatt's birth announcement. I think it turned out really cute.

Fun Weekend with Friends
This weekend our friends Edgar, Cara & their son Charlie are visiting Northern California from San Antonio, Texas. They, along with Matt, Paige & Camden came over to our place for dinner last night (courtesy of the Ortiz Family) and we had a great time. Things have changed, though, from our get togethers back in our Arizona State University days -- much less wine was consumed, the night wrapped up by 8pm and now there are 4 children between all of us with number 5 on the way!!!

It's impossible to get an infant passport photo!
We took Jack's passport photo at 9 weeks old and the photographer snapped a perfect picture on the first try. The photographer put a white poster board down on the floor and we were able to get a clear shot of Jack's face without his hands interfering and before he turned his face to one side. So, I expected we could do the same thing for Wyatt. We need to get his passport soon because we are planning on traveling to Canada to visit the Sladics in August. Unfortunately, Ritz Camera, where I took Jack no longer does infant passport photos. I asked the employee who was helping me why they no longet did the whole white poster board on the floor thing and he said because he thought it was "unsanitary". So, I don't make a practice on putting my baby on the floor in public places, but I thought on top of a poster board just to snap a quick photo was okay, but obviously he was unwilling to do it. He told me that I should try to take the picture at home and bring it in for editing...yeah, that sounds really easy! So, I asked if I could hold Wyatt in front of the background they used for adult passport photos and he agreed. But, since Wyatt can't even hold his head up it turned out to be a disaster. All of the snapshots the photographer took had my hands in them supporting his head or body and most of the time his head was turned to one side. The photographer picked out two he thought he "could work with" and printed them out, charged me $12.95 and sent me on my way.
Honestly, the pictures are so bad, I don't even think I can post them here. So I decided to take his advice and try to do my own photo shoot. While none of them are probably up to passport standards, I did get some interesting expressions from Wyatt. Newborn expressions are so funny and it seems like there hands and arms always manage to get in the picture somehow!

My plan now, I suppose, is to send in the god awful photos they took at Ritz and see if they are accepted...if not, I guess I will have to keep trying at home until I can get something good. If they are indeed accepted, I feel bad for little Wyatt, as this will be his passport photo for the next 5 years. Oh, and I did ask at a few other places about newborn passport photos and no one wants to do them anymore! Why are you complicating my life??? I just want a decent passport photo for Wyatt!!!

Wyatt is one month old
Wow, the time has flown by and Wyatt is already one month old. I can't say it he has been the easiest...basically Jack was an awesome sleeper and was already sleeping in 6 hour blocks by 3 weeks old and by 5 weeks old he slept 8 hours. Wyatt, on the other hand, does not consistently sleep more than 2 hours at a time during the night. Now he has no problem sleeping the day away, no matter what is going on around him and now matter how hard I try to wake him up! I am sure it will get easier, but Peter and I have definitely been sleep deprived. I really haven't slept more than 3or 4 hours each night for the past week and it is starting to catch up to me. We have some ideas we are going to try out and see if it helps Wyatt sleep longer at night. Hopefully I will have a good update on Wyatt in the sleep department very soon!
We took Wyatt to the breastfeeding department at the hospital where you are free to check your baby's weight and he now weighs 8 lbs. 11 oz. He is gaining about 1 ounce per day or a half pound per week. Jack really bulked up between 1 and 2 months old, so we'll see if Wyatt does the same!
Here are a couple pictures of Wyatt I took today and some of Jack at one month old for comparison!

On My Own!
Well, our helpers have gone home and I am officially on my own with two boys! Of course, "on my own" meaning between the hours of 7:30am and 6pm while Peter is at work. Today we were all up by 7:45am when Jack came to our bedroom and wanted to watch his favorite TV show "Curious George" and eat breakfast. Unfortunately Wyatt had just started nursing 30 seconds before Jack came in and I wasn't sure what I should do...should I let Wyatt eat and risk hearing Jack cry and scream until he got what he wanted, or unlatch Wyatt to hear him cry in hunger as I got Jack's breakfast ready? Well, I did a bit of both. I tried to talk to Jack to calm him down for a few minutes so at least Wyatt could get a little bit to eat, but eventually I attempted to feed Wyatt while I made Jack breakfast and got his TV show on, which I admit I am not exactly proficient at just yet. Once everyone was calmed down I realized it was bath day for Jack. I also had to take a shower. Then it dawned on me that I wasn't exactly sure how to accomplish this. So far, Wyatt does not like to be put down, but obviously he would have to be. So, I put him in the bouncy chair in the bathroom so I could at least see him (even if he was crying) while I was in the shower. But that led to another problem...while Jack is as sweet as can be with little Wyatt, sometimes he can be "too sweet" and I cannot be entirely sure that he might not accidentally be rough while giving Wyatt his dozens of kisses on the head or trying to re-insert Wyatt's pacifier into his mouth. So, I decided Jack would have to come in the shower with me and take his bath that way. I guess I picked the wrong time to introduce Jack to his first shower. He screamed his head off when he first got in and was afraid to be put down. Therefore, I had to attempt to wash him and myself while holding him, which is not an easy task. After five awkward minutes of trying to accomplish this, I came up with an idea that involved running a bath for Jack and tilting the shower head as close to the wall as I could and showering there myself. Luckily this worked wonders and we were both finally clean. So -- we left a big carbon footprint today since it took much longer & probably much more water than a separate bath for Jack and shower for myself would have taken -- but at least Wyatt was safe and sound.
Our plan for today was a trip to Target, which we did accomplish, but it took us a full 3 hours to get ready for it and out the door. Whenever we were about to leave, things would happen preventing our departure, such as Wyatt would get hungry, then Jack needed a diaper change, then Wyatt needed a diaper change, etc. Finally at 11am we made it out the door. Since it was lunchtime we stopped by Subway, which to my delight, was pretty uneventful. But for some reason, we didn't make it home until 2pm, making our whole trip somehow last 3 hours. So, I guess we need to improve our efficiency since by my calculations that means 3 hours to get ready to go and 3 hours on our one shopping trip to Target with a stop at Subway thrown in, for a total of 6 hours just to get a Target trip in. There were some extra obstacles thrown in to our trip, such as the fact that I still have no idea how to fold and unfold our double stroller yet, so I had to take two strollers, which is not easy or fast to push and load into the car. Also, when I got to Target I realized I had no where to put the items I purchased (see other post) and it was hard to maneuver the entire cart into the bathroom for a diaper change. In the past, Jack could walk in there with me while I left the cart outside, but there was no way I could carry everything plus Wyatt in his car seat into the bathroom. The things that used to be so simple with one baby...
Luckily Jack fell asleep on the way home and I was able to get him down for a nap with no problem, but by then Wyatt hadn't eaten in a long time and it was time for him to wake up to eat, which can only mean NO NAP FOR MAMA!

It's been awhile!
Sorry it has been so long since an update on the blog. We had Peter's mother, Fani, in town from May 24-June 5 and Stephanie's mom, Kathy, here from June 6-June 14. You'd think with help, I might be able to update the blog, but Jack came down with a cold and then poor Wyatt caught the same cold!!! It is really hard for a 2 week old to have a cold and for mommy to watch him have it, but he is on the mend, as is Jack.
Then, this week, I came down with mastitis, which is caused by blocked milk ducts and eventually turns into an infection that causes pain, swelling, fever and engorgement. In other words, no fun! I was prescribed an antibiotic last week which worked for a day or two, but then the infection came back worse. So now I am on a new antibiotic which is working and I am feeling much better. Wyatt continued to nurse throughout this episode, which has actually helped clear up the infection and he has been maintaining his weight gain.
So now we are back on track and hopefully I'll be able to update more frequently. In the meantime, here is an adorable picture I took of Wyatt the other day. I just happened to put him down on the bed while I changed Jack's diaper and he looked so cute, I couldn't resist just snapping a shot!!!

Wyatt is two weeks old!
Today Wyatt is two weeks old. Last night was a turning point in the sleep department as Wyatt slept 5 hours straight, which we hope he keeps up. Now we just need to get his big brother to stop waking up between 5:45-6:15am each morning and we are on a roll!!!
Today Wyatt also had his two week check-up and he has regained his birth weight and a bit more, which is the goal for a breastfed baby at this point. Wyatt is 7 lbs., 5 oz. and 20 inches and has definitely started to fill out.

His big brother continues to adore him and wants to give him kisses on the head all day long...
