I've been planning to update the blog all this week, however trying to keep up with a very active almost 2 year old and attending to the needs of a 2 month old, has left me wiped out!!! Besides, while both boys are doing new and exciting things each day, I can't seem to remember everything by the time the evening rolls around and I finally have a few minutes to myself to update the blog. However, here is an attempt!
Jack:Recently Jack has become a chatterbox (not a big surprise if you know me!). Some of his favorite words as of late are: car, lights, ham, big, off, bath, red, blue, baby, Crocs, Elmo, monkey, eyes, slide, turn, swing, hurts etc. He is also getting pretty good at stringing words together and making 2 and 3 word sentences, such as, "big car", "red car", "Hi Baby", "head hurts" (when he bumps his head), "turn, turn, turn -- swing, swing" (when we are at the park and he wants to go on the swings), etc. Come to think of it I could go on and on with the words he is saying and the little sentences he is making. It is so cute!!!!!!!! I have tried to count all his words, and obviously it is impossible to remember all of them, but I would say he has a vocabulary of well over 100 words.
The funniest sentence he makes has to do with his beloved Crocs (see previous blog entries about his attachment to them). While at the park, mall or restaurant he likes to point to anyone who is wearing Crocs as well as his own. Unfortunately, he hasn't figured out that the word "Croc" has an "R" in it. So basically my child is going around town shouting out "COCK, COCK, COCK!!!!" And for some reason he has to repeat himself with that word at least three times. This week he has added an additional word to his Croc observations and when he sees adult-sized Crocs, he has been yelling out, "BIG COCK! BIG COCK! BIG COCK!" Yes, that's my Jack!!!!
And while Jack is as sweet has he can be, he has become more independent lately too! When you tell him to do one thing, he does the opposite. When Jack, Wyatt and I leave our place and get to the elevator, Jack runs out of the elevator at the last second and runs back home, just so I have to chase him. It wouldn't be so bad if I didn't have to load Wyatt up as well as wait for the
slow elevator, but I guess that is what an almost 2 year-old is supposed to do. Another crazy thing he can do now is open our front door and run out, so we have to get a special lock to keep him in!
Jack also shows a great preference to the color blue! Now the brown and red Crocs are out as well as all sippy cups that aren't blue! Nope, the red, yellow and green ones just don't cut it anymore. Unfortunately the sippy cups are only sold in packs of two colors, so we don't have tons of blue to offer. Maybe next week he will decide that he likes red, too?
Another obsession is flushing the toilet. Jack especially loves the high-powered industrial strength toilets in public places. I can't tell you how many times I have been in a public restroom nursing or changing Wyatt, unable to leave what I am doing, while Jack is flushing the toilet repeatedly -- and I mean repeatedly -- all while stuffing most of the roll of toilet paper or the seat covers down the toilet too! I seriously wonder what people waiting for the restroom think is going on in there!!!
And finally, here is a recent picture of mischievous Jack. I would take more pictures of him, but he doesn't stay in one place long enough to capture anything but a blur!!!
Wyatt:Most of the time Wyatt is not actually called Wyatt. He is simply called "Baby" because that is what Jack calls him and for some reason, Peter and I find ourselves calling Wyatt "Baby" as well. Poor guy. Wyatt is growing and changing so fast it is unbelievable! Wyatt is working on holding his head up and most of the time, while we are carrying him around, he doesn't need any help to hold it up. He is now 11 lbs. and this week has gotten on to a good schedule of eating every 3 hours, which has definitely made things easier on me. Unfortunately most of the time when I sit down to feed him, his big brother comes over and interrupts the feeding in some way, but for the most part, Wyatt just goes with the flow... Nighttime is still not the best as he has stuck to his eating every 3 hour routine for all 24 hours of the day, so we are up still 3 times per night. I am really hoping this changes soon, but at least he is going back to sleep quickly after eating instead of staying awake for hours like he did when he was a few weeks old! He does, however, still like to sleep being held most of time so our goal for this week is to get him sleeping the entire night independently in his bassinet.
Today Peter, Jack, Wyatt and I went to the park. While Jack and Peter played on all the equipment, Wyatt and I hung out on a blanket under the shade of a big oak tree for almost 2 hours. We worked on tummy time uninterrupted, but most of the time Wyatt just lay there looking up at the leaves on the tree. He also watched some men playing soccer and of course, his big brother on the slide. He didn't cry once the entire time we were out on the blanket and he spent time on his back doing his favorite thing -- exercising his legs and arms, which kind of looks like he is kicking and punching at nothing. I was able to take a few pictures of him.

And finally, a picture of Wyatt attempting to sit in the Bumbo:
